Getting on the maps
Learn how to add an organization to the maps
An organization on WineMap can be a vineyard, winery, tasting room, or any combination of the three. Thus, a single organization can include many vineyard, winery, and tasting room locations. The important thing to remember is that if you add different locations under the same organization they will all have the same name; the name of the organization. So, if you have, for example, a vineyard and a winery and they share the same name you should enter them as one organization. If, however, they have different names, you should add each of them as a separate organization.
Steps to add an organization to your account
- Sign in to your account. If you do not already have an account this article has instructions for setting one up.
- Once you are at the page "Your Profile" look for the "Add Organization" section near the bottom of the page. Enter an "Organization Name" and click "Create Organization". The Organization name you enter will be the name of all vineyards, wineries, and tasting rooms you submit on the next pages. If you want locations to have different names, enter each as a separate organization.

- A new page loads (be patient, this can sometimes take up to a minute) with a map and a panel for adding your information. To add your information you need to know about a few tools on the panel:
- Move - Click and drag across the map to move around
- Select - Click on a vineyard, winery, or tasting room you've added to modify it's optional information or delete it
- Add Vineyard - Click points on the map along the boundary of a vineyard you would like to add. Double click the last point to complete the shape. This tool is only shown on step 1 of the panel
- Add Winery/Tasting Room – Click on the map at the location of a winery or tasting room you would like to add. This tool is only shown on step 2 & 3 of the panel
- Delete - Click to permanently erase a selected feature
- Zoom - You also need to know how to zoom in and out of the map. The easiest way to zoom is to use the scroll wheel on your mouse or track pad, but you can also use the “+” button to move in or the “-” button to move out.

- The first step in adding your information is adding vineyards for your organization. If you do not have any vineyards to enter for this organization skip ahead to step 9.
- In order to add a vineyard to the maps you’ll first need to navigate to a position on the map where you can see the vineyard. To do that, either zoom into the map and move around until you have found the vineyard or enter its address, city, and state into the “address lookup” field above the map. This automatically zooms the map to the location of the vineyard. If the vineyard does not have an address just enter a near-by address or city and state to get your bearings, and then pan around until you have found it.
- Once you have found the vineyard you will need to draw its boundary, creating a shape that represents the location of the vineyard. The boundary you draw is what will be shown on all the maps.
- Begin by clicking the “add vineyard” button. Next, click points around the boundary of the vineyard. Finally, double click to complete the shape.
- If you accidentally draw shape you want to delete, double click to complete the shape and then click the delete tool. If the shape you want to delete is not selected (highlighted), you’ll need select the shape before you delete it. To do that, click the select tool and then click the shape you want to delete.
- Once you have completed the shape you may add any of the information shown in the panel. All of the information requested in the panel is optional. If you do not wish to enter this information leave the fields blanks. Important - You mist click "save vineyard" at the bottom of the panel in order to save the optional information you enter.
- If you have another vineyard you would like to add to the maps repeat steps 5 -7. Note that all the vineyards you add will be named the organization name. If you would like to add a vineyard that has a different name, first complete the organization you are currently working on and when you get back to your account, create a new organization and add the vineyard to it.
- When you have entered all of the vineyards associated with this organization click “Next - Step 2”
- The second step in adding your organizations information is adding wineries and/or tasting rooms of your organization to the map. If you do not have any wineries and/or tasting rooms to enter for this organization skip ahead to step 14.
- In order to add a winery and/or tasting room to the maps you’ll first need to navigate to a position on the map where you can see the winery and/or tasting room. To do that, either zoom into the map and move around until you have found the location or enter its address, city, and state into the “address lookup” field above the map. This automatically zooms the map to the location of the winery. If the location does not have an address just enter a near by address or city and state.
- Once you have found the winery and/or tasting room location you will need to place a dot at its location.
- Begin by clicking the “add winery/tasting rm” button. Next, click on the map at the location of the winery and/or tasting room.
- If you accidentally place a dot you want to delete, just click the delete tool. If the dot you want to delete is not selected (highlighted), you’ll need select the dot before you delete it. To do that, click the select tool and then click the dot you want to delete.
- Once you have placed the dot you may add any of the information shown in the panel. Here you can indicate whether this location is a winery, tasting room, or both. All of the information requested in the panel is optional. If you do not wish to enter this information leave the fields blank. Important - You mist click "save winery/tasting rm" at the bottom of the panel in order to save the optional information you enter.
- If you have another winery and/or tasting room you would like to add to the maps repeat steps 9 -12. Note that all wineries and/or tasting rooms you add will be named the organization name. If you would like to add a location that has a different name, first complete the organization you are currently working on and when you get back to your account, create a new organization and add the winery and/or tasting room to it.
- When you have entered all of the wineries and/or tasting rooms associated with this organization click the “Save & finish” button next to the back button
- The Panel then notifies you that the setup process is complete. At this point you can either go back and make any changes or click “return home” which returns you to your account profile page.
Congratulations, You're Finished!
